A demonstration led by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders outside the Patel Chowk Metro Station saw a strong police presence as they protested against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the excise policy scam. Despite police warnings under Section 144, AAP members persisted in their protest, resulting in the detention of Punjab Minister Harjot Singh Bains.
Meanwhile, from within ED custody, Chief Minister Kejriwal issued directives focusing on healthcare accessibility, emphasizing free testing in mohalla clinics and ensuring medicine availability for the underprivileged. Security measures have been heightened around Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence and various parts of Delhi in anticipation of further protests.
AAP’s social media campaign displaying solidarity with Kejriwal, labeled “Modi ka Sabse Bada Dar Kejriwal,” underscores the party’s stance against what they perceive as an arbitrary arrest. Plans for a ‘Main Bhi Kejriwal’ campaign and subsequent rallies are in motion despite Kejriwal’s ongoing custody.
The ED has taken note of Kejriwal’s directives from custody and intends to investigate their alignment with legal parameters. Despite limited access to resources during his confinement, Kejriwal’s directives aim to address public welfare concerns, particularly in the realm of water management.
