Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose refuted accusations of sexual harassment made by an employee of the Raj Bhavan, dismissing them as an “engineered narrative”. He stated, “If anybody wants some election benefits by maligning me, God bless them. But they cannot stop my fight against corruption and violence in Bengal.”
The Raj Bhavan, in response to the allegations, posted on social media, expressing solidarity with Governor Bose. They stated, “Truth shall triumph. I refuse to be cowed down by engineered narratives. If anybody wants some election benefits by maligning me, God Bless them. But they cannot stop my fight against corruption and violence in Bengal.”
The accusations surfaced just ahead of a visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Kolkata, where he is staying at the Raj Bhavan. The woman, claiming to be a temporary staff member, accused Mr. Bose of molesting her multiple times under the pretext of employment. The matter has sparked controversy, especially considering the recent sexual harassment allegations against Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan.
In response, Trinamool Congress leader Shashi Panja expressed shock, stating, “We are utterly shocked. The same Governor who reached Sandeshkhali talking about women’s rights has now been involved in a rather shameful incident. He has sabotaged the reputation of his post and his chair.”
Journalist-turned-politician Sagarika Ghosh also condemned the incident as “shocking and horrifying”. The issue adds to the ongoing debate about sexual assault allegations, including those against Karnataka MP Prajwal Revanna, further intensifying criticism faced by the BJP.
