The Bombay High Court has ordered Netflix to postpone the release of its four-episode docuseries, “The Indrani Mukerjea Story: Buried Truth,” based on the Sheena Bora Murder Case. Initially scheduled to premiere on February 23, the court’s decision came just a day before its intended release.

Netflix complied with the court’s directive, informing the court on Thursday that the documentary series would not be released until February 29. The court also mandated a special screening of the series for Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officers, with the next hearing set for February 29.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sought intervention from the Bombay High Court to halt the release of the documentary following the dismissal of its request by a specialized court. Concerns were raised regarding the potential impact of the series on the ongoing investigation, particularly concerning witnesses yet to be examined.

At the center of the documentary is Indrani Mukerjea, who is currently on trial for the alleged murder of her daughter, Sheena Bora. Indrani, a former media executive, was married to media mogul Peter Mukerjea. She was arrested in 2015 in connection with Sheena Bora’s murder, revealing a complex familial relationship where Sheena was initially portrayed as Indrani’s sister but was later revealed to be her daughter from a previous marriage.

“The Indrani Mukerjea Story: Buried Truth” offers insight into the case through interviews with key individuals, including Indrani Mukerjea and her daughter Vidhie. The series presents previously unseen family photographs and recordings of phone conversations between Indrani, Peter, and Rahul Mukerjea. Additionally, it features discussions with Mukerjea’s family, legal representatives, and journalists who covered the case extensively.

Indrani Mukerjea faces charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including murder, conspiracy, kidnapping, and forgery. Currently out on bail since May 2022 after spending seven years in Byculla Jail, her trial continues amidst ongoing legal proceedings.
