Actor Sahil Khan has been remanded to police custody until May 1 in connection with the Mahadev betting app case, following his arrest by Mumbai’s special investigation team (SIT) in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh. Despite his notable roles in Bollywood films like “Aladdin,” “Excuse Me,” and “Style,” Khan is among 32 individuals accused of promoting the betting application. Several other Bollywood celebrities, including Ranbir Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, and Tamannaah Bhatia, have also been questioned in relation to their involvement with the app.
The Mahadev betting app case has seen a string of high-profile interrogations involving prominent stars. Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor were previously summoned by the Enforcement Directorate over allegations of receiving payments for promoting the app. Similarly, Kapil Sharma, Hina Khan, and Huma Qureshi were implicated in the scandal, with federal agencies revealing that they received payments through hawala transactions during a Dubai wedding in February.
Tamannaah Bhatia has been summoned for her involvement in the betting app, also known as the Fairplay app, particularly in connection with the alleged promotion of viewing IPL 2024 matches. Meanwhile, statements from Badshah, Sanjay Dutt, and Jacqueline Fernandez have already been recorded by the Mumbai Police.
The Mahadev betting app case centers on the investigation of illicit transactions between the app’s promoters and various financial and real estate firms. With an estimated scam size of ₹15,000 crore, the case involves thorough scrutiny of bank accounts, mobile phones, laptops, and other technical equipment belonging to Khan and the other individuals involved. The promoters, including Uppal, Saurabh Chandrakar, Shubham Soni, and Anil Agrawal, allegedly engaged in online betting activities via social media platforms, with substantial profits reportedly funneled to panel operators in the UAE.
As investigations continue, the Mahadev betting app case underscores the magnitude of fraudulent activities plaguing the online betting industry, with notable personalities from Bollywood coming under intense scrutiny.
