Six children lost their lives, and more than 20 others sustained injuries following a tragic incident in Narnaul, Haryana, on Thursday morning when a school bus overturned. Despite it being a holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr, the school was operational. The bus, affiliated with GL Public School, met with the accident near Unhani village of Kanina.
As per the district administration, 12 injured students received treatment at a local hospital, while two critically wounded students were transferred to a hospital in Rohtak.
Preliminary investigations by the District Education Officer suggest that the driver lost control of the bus, colliding with a tree, possibly due to intoxication. “We are probing the allegations of drunk driving and have conducted a medical examination of the driver. Additionally, it was discovered that the bus’s documentation was outdated,” stated senior police officer to reporters. Official records indicate that the bus’s fitness certificate had expired six years ago in 2018.
Police are currently interrogating the school authorities regarding the incident. Furthermore, the parents of one student faced injuries themselves when their motorcycle crashed en route to the accident site. Regrettably, the mother sustained a broken leg, while her sister succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.
